The Evolution of Galaxies in and around Clusters at High-Redshift

چکیده
In this paper, we focus on ram-pressure stripping and evaporation of disk galaxies in and around a cluster. We show that the evolution of the disk surface density affects the efficiency of ram-pressure stripping of galaxies at z ∼ 1. We also consider the saturation of thermal conduction in detail and show that it cannot be ignored at larger radii of a cluster, which makes the time-scale of the evaporation larger. Both the ram-pressure stripping and evaporation could affect the evolution of galaxies even around a cluster. In particular, the observed gradual decline of the star-formation rates of galaxies in and around clusters could be explained by evaporation without resorting to speculative strangulation (stripping of warm gas in galactic halos).

2 Globular Clusters at High Redshift
Globular clusters will be present at high redshifts, near the very beginning of the galaxy formation process. Stellar evolution ensures that they will be much more luminous than today. We show that the redshift distribution at nano-Jansky levels should be very broad, extending up to the redshift of formation. A bracketing range of choices for the redshift of formation, spectral energy evolution...
متن کاملEvolution of Galaxies in Clusters
We use new models of stellar population synthesis to estimate the fraction of stars formed during the last major bursts of star formation in E/S0 galaxies in low-redshift clusters (z ∼ < 0.4) from the spectral signatures of intermediate-age stars. We find that the mass fraction of stars formed in late bursts in early-type galaxies in clusters must have decreased smoothly with redshift, from abo...
متن کاملAges and evolution of early–type cluster galaxies at z ∼ 1 from the ACS intermediate redshift cluster survey
HST permits the study of high–z cluster galaxies in unprecedented detail and offers a unique opportunity to examine the processes driving galaxy formation. As part of our Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) intermediate redshift cluster survey, we have observed 8 galaxy clusters with redshift betwen 0.8 and 1.3. At these redshifts, galaxy clusters are still assembling and galaxies are evolving to...
متن کاملOverdensities of Galaxies at Z ∼ 3.7 in Cdf-s
We report the discovery of possible overdensities of galaxies at z ∼ 3.7 in the Chandra Deep Field South (CDF-S). These overdensities are identified from the photometric redshift selected sample, and the BV z-selected sample. One over-density is identified in the proximity of 2 AGNs and LBGs at z = 3.66 and z = 3.70 at 7-σ significance level. The other over-density is less significant. It is id...
متن کاملFrii Radio Sources in Rich Clusters of Galaxies
A sample of FRII radio sources in rich clusters of galaxies, both at high (z0.5) and low (z0) redshift, has been constructed to study the eeect of environment on radio sources. Comparisons are made between the properties of FRII sources in cluster and non-cluster environments, and between X-ray clusters with and without FRII sources. The principal results are the following: 1. Most low-redshift...

We report the discovery of possible overdensities of galaxies at z ∼ 3.7 in Chandra Deep Field South (CDF-S). These overdensities are identified from a photometric redshift-selected sample, and the BV z-selected sample. One overdensity is identified in the proximity of two active galactic nuclei and Lyman break galaxies at z = 3.66 and z = 3.70 at 7σ significance level. The other overdensity is...
